Alt Reality is a breath of fresh air coming from Frivolous just in time for summer. Funky and upbeat, this EP comes six years after his last release, and depicts Frivolous’ desire to use melodic minimal house as a stage for loose political satire open to listener interpretation.
Settling back on the west-coast of Canada bringing music to the community on the small gulf-island of Gabriola he now calls home, Frivolous has been wrestling with the question of whether Art should be inherently non partisan or not.
Believing he has something to say in light of recent news events, the tracks Demagogue, Hpnstnc, and Rays of Hope are Frivolous’ attempts at political commentary through caricature in music, alike to caricature in cartoon, play, and tv.
For the People couldn’t be happier to release this super groovy new EP.
The record Alt Reality is dedicated to Dale Adamson: A thinker and builder of amazing things, let's never stop.
For the creative mind, music offers an ideal formless space, where the only conceivable limits to self-expression might be imagination, or experience. This freedom is what has captivated Hauy, giving his avid nature a medium where he can transmit emotion as sensation in its purest form. Hauy is on a journey without a destination, a wanderer infusing his love for melodies and moody sounds with rhythms and textures that blend cultures and genres.
Hauy’s meticulously detailed productions walk the line between the structured dynamics of electronic music and a visceral melt of emotion; the result is an irreverent sense of atmosphere and dazzling transient melodies. Hauy’s tracks have been supported by artists such as Joris Voorn, Renato Ratier, and Lee Burridge, who signed Hauy’s Your Way To Paradise EP on his label Get Weird in 2017.
Currently residing in Toronto, Hauy continues to evolve and develop his emotive take on electronic music. His DJ sets carry the same depth and intimacy as his recordings, serving floating synths and grooves cut with slick, deep and progressive sounds. Loved by clubbers everywhere, Hauy’s tracks are being played at some of the world’s premiere music festivals like ADE, The BPM Festival, Burning Man, and Spectrum, and his growing global recognition has seen him work the decks at an ever-growing list of clubs in North and South America. Hauy draws us into a deeply authentic, melancholic yet hopeful world rich in tones and texture, melding mood and sound on a trip best experienced by listeners with open hearts behind closed eyes.
Found in Toronto. Lost.
Nature Of Music
Mazi and Kian are the dynamic duo behind Nature of Music, a dj/live act, and Equaria, an event agency based out of Canada.
Known for their signature deep-atmospheric sound, combined with drum machines and topped with acapellas, Nature of Music has turned quite a lot of heads in the Canadian electronic music scene. Starting from underground loft parties and slowly making their way to clubs and festivals, their success wasn’t overnight. It was through years of individual hard work that Mazi and Kian finally decided to join forces and create Nature of Music (2009). A project aimed to do more than just making people dance, a partnership aimed to address social and economical problems, to promote spirituality and shed light on propagandas and political misbeliefs.
From Off Sonar parties in Barcelona and showcases in Berlin, to festivals across Canada, Nature of Music has shared decks with Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Nick Warren, Gui Boratto, Guy Gerber, Josh Wink, Pan-Pot, Dixon, Henrik Shwarz, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Kevin Saunderson, Marcel Dettmann, Robert Babicz, Paul Kalkbrenner, and more.
Nature of Music was referenced by Hernan Cattaneo as a production duo to look out for in the coming years.
Sam Jaspersohn grew up surrounded by nature in a rural town in the Green Mountains of Vermont. In these surroundings he was able to explore the woods, practice en pleine air painting and, oddly enough, learn computer music composition. His early influences included Boards of Canada, Massive Attack, Sasha & Digweed, and 90’s trip hop. With these sounds in his head, he began recording his own house and techno music at age fifteen, and discovered his gift for creating unique sounds and aural landscapes—a talent that shaped his signature style.
Jaspersohn’s productions and remixes are subtle, emotional, melancholic, and euphoric. There’s a human roughness to his tracks, which he achieves via field recordings, and sampling of his own voice and trumpet playing. In 2015, he further evolved his style via collaborations with numerous New York and Hawaii-based vocalists. Jaspersohn’s varied sound will be further unveiled with his 2016 debut of a live set of original works that blurs the boundaries between musical categories, but might be best summed as deep and atmospheric house music.
